The Carolinas Wireless Association has a long and proud history of contributing to local charities through proceeds raised at its annual Golf Tournament, an event that members look forward to each year.
The Association held its first Charity Golf Tournament in Raleigh during the summer of 2006. The 1st Annual Golf Tournament, which did not even fill one course, benefited the UNC Hospital Ovarian Cancer Research Center at Chapel Hill.
The event continued to grow each year, and CWA was proud to be able to donate an increasing amount each year to its designated charity recipient. In 2010, CWA donated $15,500 to the center.
In 2011, CWA began donating proceeds from the annual golf tournament to Victory Junction, a North Carolina non-profit organization that enriches the lives of children with serious illnesses by providing life-changing camping experiences that are exciting, fun and empowering, at no cost to the children or their families. The organization was founded by members of the famous Petty race car family in memory of their son and brother, Adam Petty, a young driver who had a passion for children. Members of Adam Petty’s family have attended CWA’s Golf Tournament, as has Victory Junction’s CEO, Chad Coltrane.
In 2012, the event moved to Pinehurst to take advantage of the multiple courses available. Each year since moving to Pinehurst, the contribution to Victory Junction has continued to grow along with the number of players participating in the event. Today, more than 300 golfers participate in the event each year, and the association has donated nearly $150,000 to Victory Junction.
In 2018, CWA made a $27,500 donation to Victory Junction, it’s largest donation to date raised from its annual Golf Tournament.
